Production Technology Meets Industry 4.0

RWTH Aachen University, Germany

August 2019

  • Collaborated with 30+ students, 15+ professors, 10+ research institutes to explore fundamental areas of Industry 4.0 and requirements in production technology
  • Programmed a six-axis robot’s movements and designed handling tasks such as automatic drawing

  • Planned ideal factory layout using visTABLE and experienced virtually in the CAVE display system

  • Used CAD tools to structural optimize the part geometry for lightweight design

  • Integrated computational materials modelling by using data analysis software JMatPro, and design the process towards advanced steels with tailored properties

  • Contributed overall 90+ hours in industry 4.0 research, received three recommendation certificates from 10 different professional institutions in Germany

COMPETITION

Ontario Engineering Competition

University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada

  • Represented the University of Toronto to compete in the 2020 Ontario Engineering Competition, re-engineering section
  • ​Re-designed the bathroom of an elder's home, emphasizing the concept of safety and ergonomics, which was demonstrated using SketchUp
  • Renovation of an abandoned shopping mall into an elder community, which includes four main functional areas: residential district, service area, recreational area, and logistic zone
  • Composed two professional reports and gave an oral presentation in an intense and time-limited competition environment

UTEK Re-Engineering Competition

University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada

  • Worked in a team of two, using SolidWorks to re-engineer an urban carbon capture mechanism that aimed to reduce the carbon dioxide concentration in the urban area
  • The proposed design was composed of a mobile vehicle and a Direct Air Capture (DAC) module
  • Support the solution by analysising design objectives, constraints, safety & environment, and commercial feasibility
  • Won the 1st place in the competition

CLUB

SUMO, University of Toronto Robotics Association

University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada

  • Worked in a team of four, collaborative design of a small-scale robot to compete in the intra-club SUMO competition
  • Designed the mechanical, electrical, and software portion of the robot utilizing skills such as Fusion 360, PCB designing and soldering, Arduino programming, respectively.
